Oooooo, you DON'T want Oprah mad at you.

Oh, my!
I am watching Oprah's interview with James Frey - she is rolling her neck and calling him a liar... Can't wait to hear what others think of all this.

Introducing - Library Talk

I have decided to throw my hat into the "library community" ring and have launched a new librarian bulletin board - Library Talk.

I'm hoping that this board might take on the same vibe I get over at Flickr - fun, informal, and very informative. I have always been partial to bulletin boards, because I like a conversational atmosphere.

I'm starting this off small, and broad, and hoping that it catches on. There is a thread for suggestions (please let me know what's working for you and what isn't), and if anyone is interested in moderating a thread or two, please let me know. I am also hosting it off-site to start with - I figured if it's a flop, I wouldn't have gone through the hassle of a PHP install for nothing. There is an ad banner, but no pop-ups (and if the board experiment works and people prefer that I host it on my site, I will).

I hope you'll check it out - registration is free, and you can also post as a guest if you'd rather not register (but I'm hoping you will).

Yay!

Well, I got the job - I am now the new Community Services Librarian for the City of East Providence. I can't even believe it.

It's funny that this happened right after I redesigned my webpage and blog in anticipation of really trying to make my side business lucrative. Oh, well, now I have a nicer site and the added experience of coding the page. And, I expect that after I get settled and get a clue at my new job, I will still be able to pursue some side-work. I still have dreams of owning my own business at some point and working for myself exclusively....

I still plan to get libraryland back up and running at some point. I just started the design process for that, and I'll either have to get it going before the first of February, or put it on the back burner until early summer (unless I pick up my job skills quickly and find that I am not real stressed).

In the meantime, I will have fresh library goings on to write about! That's actually a pretty exciting prospect for me - I think this job will be interesting because of the community outreach component. I'd love to here from other librarians who do this type of work - I may need all the help I can get.

New Site Design

Look! Something's different here! Like the new logo? I have also redesigned the main site, www.coollibrarian.com, which may have a bug or two, but is at this point up and running. I will have to spent some time on it tonight, as the text renders in Times when viewed in Firefox and Opera, and it shouldn't (comes up correctly in IE,as sans serif, and I have a feeling there is something in my code that my server, not the browser, doesn't like). At any rate, I'm very happy with the logo (designed by a graphics design student) and happy with the clean look and new colors. Comments are welcome!
